The Jesse Lee story opens in the Aleutian Islands with the arrival of well-meaning 19th century missionaries intent on delivering salvation and "civilization" to a proud people. This volume tells of an institution founded in conflict and dissention that grew into a community admired by its neighbors and loved by many of its residents, mostly native children from coastal Alaska. The home operated in Unalaska for 35 years until it moved to Seward in 1925.
